Model a space in real-time with our LiDAR interior scan experience. From start to finish, the average interior LiDAR scan for a property only takes 15 minutes. Then, you'll quickly receive:
Detailed measurements (including cabinets, walls, windows, opening, and doors)
2D and 3D sketch floor plans
Property and damage photos
If LiDAR automatic photo mode is "on", additional photos are captured in the background during the scan, creating a virtual mesh of the environment and increasing your photo documentation
In the following sections, click the expand arrows to reveal more or collapse information.
Universal vs LiDAR Interior Scan
This article covers our LiDAR Interior scan experience, which only works with certain devices (iPhone 12 Pro and later, iPad Pro 2020 and later). If you don't have a LiDAR device, you can use our alternative universal scan experience.
Can I switch between experiences?
Can I switch between experiences?
If you are on a professional Hover account and have a LiDAR device, the app will default to the LiDAR scan experience. Policyholders will default to the Universal flow.
You can also use the Universal Scan experience on a LiDAR device. To adjust your settings:
Video: How to scan an interior space
Take advantage of this short video to learn how to scan an interior space with the LiDAR-specific experience, or continue reading below for a step-by-step guide.
1) Start a new project
To start a new interior scan:
Tap the plus sign (+)
Select Interior
Fill out the property information and tap Get started
2) Enter the number of floors you expect to scan
Use the (-) and (+) on the next screen to input the number of floors you expect to scan. Don't worry - you can add more later on as well!
3) Scan a room
We recommend starting with an average or large-sized room first, especially if you're new to this process.
Tap Start scan
Review the instructions
Tap Next, then tap Scan first room
Your device will calibrate. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Point your camera at a wall
You will see white lines outline the room and the model will begin forming at the bottom of your screen
Try different angles
If an area is not recognized, try different angles. If you prefer, scan the rest of the room and then return to the stubborn areas.
Once you're confident the scan is complete, tap Done with this room
Rotate and zoom in on the model to check that all the walls, openings, and cabinets are included and then tap Confirm
4) Add photos (optional)
After you scan each space, you will see an option to take photos of the room for your records. If you need to document damaged areas, this is how to do so.
Tap Add photos
Click the shutter button to take as many as you need, then tap Continue
You can review the photos from the gallery, and add more if desired
Please note that these are the only photos that will be saved to the project. Take as many as you need - no limit!
5) Scan another room (optional)
For the model to generate successfully, each scanned room should "touch" another scanned room - creating a photo trail of connected spaces throughout the floor plan.
Each space scanned should be on the same level. If you want to scan spaces on another level as well, see Step 6 for information on scanning a new floor.
If you have another space on the same floor to scan:
Tap Scan another room on this level
Repeat the process, as shown in this help article to this point.
When finished scanning, tap Finish this room
Review the model of the space, tap Continue, and then repeat for as many rooms on the same floor as needed
When you're done with the floor, tap Review this level
6) Scan another level (optional)
You can add another level, as well. Each level of a property will be processed as a separate project. Once returned, each floor plan can be imported into your estimation software, (like Xactimate, and Cotality) and then merged.
Tap Add another level from the Review level screen
Your previous scan will be submitted, and a new project will start automatically
7) Rename, add, or delete rooms (optional)
From the Review level screen, you can view the scan as a 3D floor plan or list view, add or delete rooms, and customize the room names of the model, if desired.
Tap the room label that you want to edit
Type the new name if you want to customize it, or if you want the room completely removed from the floor plan, tap Delete scan
Tap Save
8) Submit scan
Tap Finish property when you're ready to upload the project.
Leave the app open until you see the notification that your property was submitted successfully.
9) Receive measurements and model
In about a minute, you will receive the measurements, model, and any manually added photos in the Hover app. If the LiDAR automatic photo mode was "on" during the scan, additional background photos and the virtual mesh they create of the environment will also be available.
Quickly import all that information into Xactimate or Claims Workspace to complete your estimate.
Quickly import all that information into Xactimate or Claims Workspace to complete your estimate.
How it appears in Xactimate:
Not only will you have the measurements, floor plan, and damage photos when you import into your Xactimate claim, but you will also see the interactive model displayed beside the sketch so that you can review everything about the property in one place.
How it appears in Cotality's Claims Workspace:
The measurements, floor plan, 2D sketch, and damage photos will be imported into your Cotality claim.
Note: Any photos you manually added to the project during the scanning process will be available through the integrations.
Troubleshooting Tips
The app has several built-in notifications to guide you through the process and ensure you have a successful experience.
Merging issue
Merging issue
If you see a "Merging issue" notification, it means you may not have successfully scanned the connected space between rooms.
For all desired rooms to be included in the final floor plan, all adjoining hallways, landings, etc. must also be scanned.
Return to the previously captured space and scan again.
Exit scan
Exit scan
If you attempt to exit the app while in the process of completing a scan, you will see an "Are you sure?" notification:
Tap Continue scan to resume with the scan
Tap Exit scan to confirm you want to exit - The data of your current scan will be erased, and a new scan of the room will be required.
