Updated over a week ago

Below is a list of answers to common questions about Hover's Interior solution.

Click the expand arrows to reveal more or collapse information.

General

What is the difference between the Universal and LiDAR Scan?

If you are on a professional Hover account and have a LiDAR device, the app will default to the LiDAR scan experience. Policyholders will default to the Universal flow.

Can I switch between the Universal or LiDAR scan experiences?

If you have a LiDAR device, you can the Universal or LiDAR Scan.

To adjust your settings:

  1. Tap on the settings icon in the Hover app

  2. Open "Account settings"

  3. To disable LiDAR, toggle off "Interiors LiDAR Scan" as seen below.

  4. To enable LiDAR, toggle on "Interiors LiDAR Scan"

Can I scan multiple floors?

From the Review level screen, tap Add a room or level to add another floor. You will have the option to tap Add a level on the following screen which will submit your first project, and automatically start a new project. As previously done, scan the space(s) on the next floor.

Please note that each floor will be returned as a separate order. Once returned, each project can be automatically imported into Xactimate or CoreLogic and then merged.

If you are inviting a policyholder or professional partner to scan the space, you will only need to send one invitation.

How long does it take to scan a space?

With either the Universal or LiDAR scan experience, scan time will depend on the size of the space(s) scanned. On average, scanning 4-7 spaces takes about 15 minutes for a new user and about half that time for a seasoned user.

Does it work for large or commercial buildings?

Yes. For optimal performance, scan one room at a time. Complete and submit one level before moving on to the next.

If you encounter difficulties with high ceilings or crowded spaces when using LiDAR (e.g., large manufacturing facilities, libraries, banks), consider switching to Universal Scan for the best results.

What types of claims can I use this on?

All types of property claims with interior damage including damage to the walls, ceilings, and floors.

  • Hover can still be used if only a partial structure exists. Walls that are down to the studs are still able to be captured with Hover.

  • Hover works for small or large interior losses - scan just 1 room or the entire home.

We automate collecting measurements and creating the sketches for cabinets, cluttered rooms, tight spaces, custom openings, curved walls, and more.

What if there is poor lighting?

A good rule of thumb is “If you can see it through your phone's screen, we can generate a model for it”.

In dark spaces, light up the room as much as possible. For example, use the flashlight on your phone, or a ring light, if there aren't working-lights already available in the space.

What if it's a tight space, like a pantry?

  • More coverage is always better – pan the phone up/down and left/right for a complete scan in tight spaces

  • Capture wide shots – step back to include door frames

  • Focus on hard lines and corners – aim to capture top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right to get the back corners of a space

Do all the rooms or spaces I scan need to be next to each other?

Yes. For the model to reconstruct successfully, each space scanned should be connected by another scanned space, creating a photo trail throughout the space. Please remember to scan hallways as their own space, especially if they go in multiple directions.

Are the photos saved to my device?

Check your device settings to determine whether manually added photos will be saved to your device (photos taken when you clicked the shutter button).

To check your settings:

  • Tap on the settings icon in the Hover app

  • Open Account settings

  • Toggle on or off Save photos to device

To preserve phone storage and optimize app performance, any photos automatically captured by Hover to model the space will never be saved to your device.

What is automatically imported into Xactimate or CoreLogic?

With our integration the models, measurements, sketches, and manually added photos for your project can be automatically passed into Xactimate or CoreLogic.

More information:

Are all the photos imported into Xactimate or Core Logic?

Any manually added photos (you clicked the shutter button) will be available through the integrations.

Any photos that Hover automatically captured to model the space may or may not be available to pull in depending on your company level settings. Check with your company Admin for more information.

Universal Scan

Can I scan multiple floors?

Yes, tap "Add a room or level" from the Review screen, then tap "Add a level".

Please note that each floor will be returned as a separate order. Once returned, each project can be automatically imported into Xactimate or CoreLogic and then merged. If you are inviting a policyholder or professional partner to scan the space, you will only need to send one invitation.

How long will it take to process the Universal scan?

Turnaround time varies by the square footage being scanned. Typically spaces less than 1,000 sq ft will be returned within 3 hours. You will receive a notification via email once the project is ready for review.

What will I receive once the scan has processed?

Your comprehensive data package will include:

  • Detailed measurements (including cabinets, walls, windows, doors, and opening)

  • 2D and 3D sketch floor plans

  • Property photos

  • Virtual Walkthrough of the entire space captured

What if I do something wrong?

We make the process fairly seamless, guiding you (or your policyholders) along step by step. In the event that we are unable to process the scan, we will notify you via email with details on why we were unable to process the project.

How quickly will I know if the scan cannot be processed?

If we are unable to reconstruct all or part of the property, we will typically notify you within 1 hour. Complex or large orders can take up to 3 hours.

LiDAR Scan

Can I scan multiple floors?

From the Review level screen, tap Add a room or level to add another floor. You will have the option to tap Add a level on the following screen which will submit your first project, and automatically start a new project. As previously done, scan the space(s) on the next floor. Once returned, each scan can be imported into Xactimate and then merged.

What will I receive after the LiDAR scan has processed?

Your comprehensive data package will include:

  • Detailed measurements (including cabinets, walls, windows, doors, and openings)

  • 2D and 3D sketch floor plans

  • Property photos

Will I receive a virtual walkthrough of the space?

Virtual walkthrough is only included for all Interior projects using Universal Scan. At this time, projects scanned using the LiDAR experience will not receive a virtual walkthrough model.

What if I do something wrong?

With the LiDAR experience, the app models the space in real-time on your screen, and you can view the 3D model during the 'review' step prior to submitting the scan. Any errors visible during the 'review' step will appear in the final outputs, so it’s important to ensure accuracy before submission.

If something looks incorrect at any point during the process, or if the scan fails to generate the measurements and model, you can rescan the space as needed. Upon submitting your LiDAR scan, the measurements and sketch will directly reflect what was captured.

How quickly will I know if the scan could not be processed?

We will notify you almost immediately if it cannot be processed, but if you have any assumption that something is wrong, reach out to our support team ([email protected]) for assistance. They will advise whether or not you need to rescan the space.
