Once you've received Hover data for a property you can generate a material list from either the mobile or web app.
A material list can be created from any exterior Hover 3D data, regardless of whether the measurements were extracted from photos or a blueprint, and regardless of whether it was submitted as a roof-only or full (roofing and siding) request.
Course: How to Create a Material List
Take advantage of this short, interactive walkthrough to learn how to create a material list, or continue reading below for an overview of how the process works.
All of our Material List information is in the process of being updated to reflect recent product enhancements. The course above does not yet reflect the same contents of this article.
Click the expand arrows to reveal more or collapse information.
1. Tap material list
Navigate to the property and tap Material list
Navigate to the property and tap Material list
From the Projects page, open the project details page and click the Material List button to begin
This will generate a list of templates for you to use
2. Scope your project
You will have two options for how to scope your project. Based on your preference, you can either:
Scope materials in 3D, or
Start from a material template
No matter which of the two options you choose, you can select multiple material styles for a single trade. Choose as many templates as you need for your project scope.
Option 1. Scope materials in 3D
This option provides a visual way to assign Material List templates directly from the 3D model.
From the trade panel:
Locate the specific trade you want to assign to a template (e.g., roof, siding, etc.)
Click the + button
Choose your desired template (e.g., board & batten, shingle, etc.)
Click Apply
To make adjustments for finer detail:
Click Edit Area from the template in the trade panel
To select or deselect a surface, click on it from either the trade panel or 3D model
Click Apply
Want to apply mixed materials? You can create a new material group:
Click Add to scope + from the bottom of the trade panel
Select your desired template, then click Edit Area beneath it
Select facade(s) to include in the new material group - from either the tiles in the trade panel or facade(s) directly on the 3D model
Click Apply
Click Create Material List to continue.
Option 2. Start from a material template
Select the template(s) you want to use for each trade, based on your project scope.
Select the template(s) you want to use for each trade, based on your project scope.
If you or an admin have saved templates to your account, you will see them first, under the Custom template section
If you haven't saved templates yet, you will only see the option to choose templates from the Materials, Labor & Other items library.
To find the template you need, search by the manufacturer, product line, trade, material type/substrate, and more! If you're still unable to find the template you’re looking for, you can request a specific template by selecting the "Need another template?" option.
Note: Our manufacturer / branded templates are developed in collaboration with the manufacturers, themselves. We are actively working on partnerships to expand our Hover Template Library of ready-made templates.
When finished, click either:
Create Material List
Or click Select partial area if you only want to apply one material on a single facade (ex: front of house for curb appeal)
*Stone, stucco, and brick templates are available as well
Note: if the job has roof-only measurements, it will only calculate roofing templates. Other trade templates will appear in the selection menu but if chosen, those values will show as 0.
3. Apply material(s) on the 3D model
This step only applies if you've chosen multiple materials for a single trade. If you've only chosen (1) material template, skip ahead to the "Review material list" section.
Based on the project scope, apply the materials by tapping on the model (zoom and rotate), or by tapping on the labeled area boxes.
You can also click on the "..." to:
Select all facets, quickly
Deselect all facets, quickly
Add another section (duplicate template)
Remove a template
When finished, click Create Material List

4. Review the material and production list
Once your templates have been selected, Hover will automatically generate a list of the material and labor quantities for each trade, with default values for installation and waste preferences.
You can make edits to the material list by either:
Editing line items manually, or
Editing the project scope
Making in-line edits:
You can edit, add, replace, or remove any line item(s) based on your project scope. Click the expandable arrows below to learn more.
For Material line items
For Material line items
For each material line item, you can make in-line edits to the name of the product, color/variation, quantities, etc. Plus, you can change the unit of measure by using the UoM dropdown menu.
Search keywords or, if you’re set up with digital ordering, search for the supplier item number.
For Labor line items
For Labor line items
Labor line items are located just below the full list of material line items. Each template and its associated labor are accounted for in this section.
Labor line items are automatically associated to Hover's measurements - similar to the material line items.
Enter your line item costs the first time, then save it as template to skip the manual entry, next time!
If you want a line item to remain in the template but do not want it included in the downloaded version, simply uncheck the box beside it.
For Other line items
For Other line items
Other line items are located just below the full list of labor line items.
Unlike material and labor line items, Hover's measurements for the project are not associated with Other line items.
Use in-line editing in this section to account for things like permits, dumpsters, etc. and their associated costs. When saved as a template, you can skip this manual entry, next time!
Editing the project scope:
Clicking the Summary button at the top of a material list is the fastest way to review the calculations. If something looks inaccurate, you can edit the scope at any time.
Other reasons to edit the project scope include:
1. Your job has unique install and waste preferences, for example:

Update ice and water calculations
Apply gutter apron on eaves instead of rather drip edge
Include metal flashing on valleys

2. You've requested to have your property measurements reprocessed:
If you've requested to have your property data reprocessed to reflect any measurement updates, addition or removal of gutters and downspouts etc., you should use the edit scope feature to access the most current material quantities based on the revised measurements.
NOTE: Editing the project scope will generate a new material list. Previously generated material lists can be retrieved from the project details page > Materials tab.

Trade quick links
Trade quick links
Beside the Materials section title, (as well as the Labor section title), you will see an at-a-glance reference for which trades were selected and how many material line items (or labor line items) were included in that template.
Clicking the trade buttons (e.g. Siding, Roof, etc.) will help you quickly navigate to the items for that particular trade.
Calculation details (line item waste and coverage)
Calculation details (line item waste and coverage)
Click the calculator icon to review how the material quantity was calculated. You can also adjust waste factor coverage for the particular line item.
Each template will have a default waste factor which you will see in the Measurements column. The waste value set at the line item level will take precedence over the waste factor selected at the template level.
If you change the product of a line item, you need to ensure the coverage specified matches the selected product. It will not recalculate automatically based on product name changes.
To adjust the waste or coverage:
Click the calculator icon
Click into the Waste field, manually type your desired waste factor
Click into the Coverage field, manually type your desired value
Click Update
Unit costs and total costs
Unit costs and total costs
Material costs (and labor + other costs) are not added by default. However, you can manually type the costs for each line item and save those figures as a part of your template for future use.
As unit costs are updated, the total cost for materials, labor, and other items will be reflected in the box at the top of the material list.
Add material, labor, or other line items
Add material, labor, or other line items
Depending on which line item you want to add to the production list, click the applicable button in the top right corner of each section.
To add a material line item:
Click + Add material
Fill out the material information in the pop-up screen
Tap Add Material
To add a labor line item:
Click + Add labor
Fill out the information on the pop-up screen
Tap Add Labor
To add an 'other' line item:

5. Download and share
If you're satisfied with how your material list looks, download and share it as a PDF or CSV. Note that, if you applied Hover’s recommended roof waste to the template, that disclaimer will appear on the PDF and CSV.
You can also download just the labor, or just the other items.
To download and share either a PDF or CSV of just the Labor items, or just the Other line items, click the "Download" button in the corresponding section:
