5 Things to Try First

Get started with Hover’s construction workflow in 5 easy steps— from your first scan to your first estimate.

Updated today

Whether you’re scoping a remodel or preparing a takeoff, these five quick steps will help you see how Hover simplifies every stage of your process.

1. Scan a full exterior

Start with a real-world test. Use the Hover app to capture exterior photos of a sample property. It only takes 8 photos to create a complete digital twin. You’ll get a 3D model and accurate measurements for roofing, siding, and openings — the foundation for everything that comes next.

How to scan an exterior

  1. In the mobile app, tap Start a project from the home screen, or tap + in the navigation menu.

  2. Tap Exterior Measurements.

  3. Fill in the property details.

  4. Specify what you’re measuring: Roof only or Full exterior.

  5. Tap Get started and follow the in-app instructions to capture and upload photos.

2. Create inspiring designs, instantly

Instant Design lets you transform a photo of a home into a realistic, fully editable design mockup in seconds. It’s a fast way to visualize materials, colors, and styles directly on the property image, helping homeowners make confident decisions and speeding up your sales process.

How to create an Instant Design

  1. Open your project in Hover.

  2. From the Property Detail page, click the Design tile or tab.

  3. Browse the Instant Design inspiration images to explore trending looks.

Once opened, you can customize the look with different products, colors, and finishes or use Inspire Me to instantly apply pre-built styles.

3. Explore your 3D model

Once your project is processed, open the 3D model to see how Hover visualizes every surface, plane, and line segment. You can zoom in, inspect details, and share the model with teammates or homeowners for collaboration.

To access the 3D model:

  • From the measurement PDF: open the email notification, then click the link on the cover page.

  • From Property Details: open the project and click Open 3D Model.

How to Design in 3D

  • Open your project’s 3D model and select the Design tab.

  • Choose a template and color palette from the left menu.

  • Click icons for Walls, Roof, Trim, Windows, or Doors to customize specific elements.

  • Filter by brand, color, or style, and instantly see changes applied to the model.

4. Generate a material list

Once your Hover data is ready, you can generate a Material List directly from the web or mobile app: no tracing, scaling, or manual calculations required. Create multiple Material Lists for the same property to compare product options or pricing scenarios.

How it works

  1. Open your project and tap Material List.

  2. Choose how you want to scope your project:

    • Scope in 3D: Assign materials visually from the 3D model.

    • Start from a Template: Select from pre-set templates for roofing, siding, stone, or brick.

  3. Review your quantities and adjust as needed. Hover automatically calculates materials and labor for each trade.

5. Integrate your workflow

Bring Hover into the tools you already use — from estimators to distributors — and watch your workflow come together.

Here’s how Hover fits into your existing process:

  • Estimating platforms: Sync Hover data with systems such as Xactimate or Cotality to reduce manual entry and ensure every line item matches your scope.

  • Distributors: Send purchase orders directly to partners like ABC, SRS, or QXO for fast, accurate material fulfillment.

  • Business and field tools: Integrate with platforms like AccuLynx, ServiceTitan, or Leap SalesPro to keep jobs, measurements, and customer data connected across your workflow.
