When you scope trim in 3D and start your estimate from that saved design, Hover pulls in a starter template by default. This article shows how to create custom trim templates in three steps so you can save your own trim pricing once, and use it for every future job. Custom trim templates will pull your saved costs, markup, and labor automatically, adjusted to that next job's linear footage and color.
Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different, or you'd like early access, please contact our Support team.
Step 1: Design your trim in 3D
To create your first custom trim template, you will start a new 3D design and scope just the trim for a project.
From the 3D card on the project details page, select Start designing in 3D
Within the 3D experience, select the trim category from the top of the Material Group panel
Select Edit Trim from the Material Group panel or from the Action Bar.
Choose the wall(s)/facade(s) where you want to apply trim. Toggle trim on across the whole structure, or turn individual trim segments on and off where you want them.
Use the drill-down flow to assign the product, brand, and color; previewing color changes directly on the model.
To adjust groups or individual boards: Select a whole material group to change its width or color, or select a single board to override it without affecting the rest of the group.
If you need to remove a board, select it and choose Remove from its options menu.
Note: This flow is technically functional on mobile, but the desktop or tablet experience is recommended for this level of detail.
Step 2: Start your estimate
Select Start Estimate, and save your design from Hover’s prompt.
Review and create estimate: in this panel, you can review the trim details (i.e., brand, color, width, linear foot total measurement, etc.)
Select Create Estimate.
On the first estimate from a new trim design, Hover uses the starter template. You will turn it into your own custom template in the next few steps.
Step 3: Add your pricing and save
From the estimate view, add your unit cost to each trim line item (including secondary items like z-flashing, if used).
(Optional) Add labor costs for the trim scope if it's not already included.
Add your markup and tax, and apply your margin across the estimate.
Once your trim line items, markup, tax, margin, and labor are set the way you want them, save the estimate as a template. This overrides your existing starter template with your pricing.
Reuse or create additional templates for future projects
Once you've saved a custom trim template, any future project that includes trim designed in 3D, will automatically default to that custom template. Your unit costs, markup, and labor carry over, and Hover recalculates the total based on the new project’s actual linear footage and trim color. No need to rebuild your pricing each time.
If you eventually create multiple custom trim templates, you can select which one to use from the Review and create estimate panel in the 3D experience.
Note: Hover’s 3D trim does not flow into a combined siding+trim estimation template.
