Introducing the new 3D Experience

What's changed — including an updated 3D interface, integrated measurements, and updated product selection — and how to get things done in the new experience.

What's New? The 3D interface has been updated with a new redesigned product selection experience with measurements now integrated directly into the 3D model — no mode-switching required. The new experience is designed to guide you through decisions one step at a time, so you can focus on the job instead of navigating menus.

Overview

The updated experience changes how you select areas, find and apply materials, and view measurements in 3D. Instead of presenting all options at once, the new interface guides you through each decision in sequence — select an area, choose a material, preview it, confirm it. Measurements are now part of the same view as well, so you never have to leave 3D mode to check a number.

These updates improve the core workflow you use every day. The sections below walk through what's changed and how to get things done in the new experience.

Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different, or you'd like early access, please contact our Support team.

How to use it

Entering the 3D experience

From the property details page, selecting either the 3D, Measurements, or Estimates card will now bring you into the same 3D experience with views of the model to fit what you need to do.

  • 3D and Estimates entrypoints: Opens the 3D with materials view

  • Measurements entrypoint: Opens the 3D model with measurement view

Selecting and changing materials in 3D

When you open a project in 3D, the first thing you'll see are the existing materials already on the house, organized by area with the associated measurements. From there, select an area and choose what to change. The product selection panel only appears after you initiate a change.

How to select and change a material:

  • Open your project and select 3D from the project details page.

  • Select the area you want to change (i.e. Walls, Roof, Trim, etc.) from the control panel, or by selecting areas directly on the model.

    • The existing materials for the area(s) you select will display in the panel.

  • To change one or more materials at a time, select them from the panel and click Change.

    • The product selection panel will open.

  • Navigate through the drill-down to find your product:

    • Each category (eg. roof, walls, trim) will have a different set of drill down steps, but generally the steps are: product type → brand → specific product → color variation.

    • You can navigate back to a previous step by using the back arrow or jumping to the previous step with the step indicators.

  • Search a specific product

    • Enter a product name or variation by entering text into the search bar

  • Toggle to view recently applied products

    • Find your recently used products from past projects

  • Preview each color applied to the house, then select Done to confirm your applications.

Once a material is applied, you can change the color or navigate back up the selection chain to choose a different product or brand.

Changing Products:

If you want to change a material you already applied to the model, re-enter the product selection experience by clicking on the variation name on the material card or selecting the material card and pressing change. Navigate back up the selection chain to choose a different type, brand, or product.

Tip: Use Recents or Search to skip the drill-down when you already know what you're looking for.

Viewing measurements in 3D

Measurements are now viewable in-line with each material card. You no longer need to switch modes to view them.

When you open the measurements panel, the model automatically adjusts to show measurement labels and removes the material layer for better visibility.

  • Viewing facet counts

    • When the Facet toggle is selected, you will see a list of each facet for that material, its label (e.g. SI-1, SI-2), and its area measurement

  • Viewing line segment lengths

    • For roof and wall categories you can toggle to the segment tab to view the details of each edge measurement type

When you make a material change, it shifts back to the material view. The transitions happen automatically.

Starting an estimate from 3D

Hover’s workspace is not just for visualizing options, it’s also a scoping experience that can transition seamlessly into an estimate.

  • Supported Categories:

    • For roof, walls, soffit, and fascia, Hover transfers the applied products for those specific areas directly into an estimate.

  • Starting an estimate:

    • Click Review estimate to begin

    • Estimate templates, including any associated line items and pricing for the selected product, will be automatically mapped.

    • If you need to adjust which estimate template to use, press Change

    • Exclude selections from your estimate:

      • If for any reason you do not want to include certain product selections in your estimate, click the ellipsis within the Review estimate panel and remove it from your estimate. This will not remove it from the 3D model.

    • Generate your estimate:

      • When you’re ready to edit your estimate details even further, press Create estimate to continue.

Getting help inside Workspace

This update makes it easier to get help without leaving Workspace. The help button is now in the upper left of the panel, and it's expanded to include a few more options:

Select the help icon to:

  • Take the product tour

  • Watch tutorials

  • Go to the Help Center

Why this is better

The new experience gives you:

  • Faster material selection: The drill-down replaces filter-based selection with a guided path — product type, brand, product, color — so finding what you need takes fewer decisions.

  • Easier edits: Once a material is applied, you can change the color or navigate back up the chain to pick something different. Previously, modifying an already-applied material was a known friction point.

  • Measurements where you need them: Measurements are now part of the 3D view. The model adjusts automatically based on what you're doing — no manual mode switching.

  • Help when you need it: Training resources are now accessible from this screen.

Frequently asked questions

Click the expand arrows to reveal or collapse information.

Where did the mode switcher go?

The feature switcher that let you toggle between 2D, 3D, and Measurements mode has been removed. Measurements are now integrated into the 3D experience and update automatically as you work. You no longer need to switch modes to view them.

To open the 2D experience, navigate to your project details page and click or tap “Start designing in 2D” in the 2D card.

Will my existing designs be affected by this update?

Existing designs are not affected by this update. Projects you've already worked on will open in the updated interface, but your saved materials and design choices are preserved.
