Transfer designs from 2D to 3D

Try this beta design feature to bring key 2D material selections into 3D.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What's new? You can now carry portions of your 2D design direction straight into 3D. Transfer some of your key material choices for walls, roof, and trim to create a familiar starting point for homeowners and keep momentum moving from inspiration to scoping. Even more transfer capabilities will be added in future updates.

Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different, or you’d like early access, please contact our Support team.

Overview

Our newest beta capability lets you carry material selections from your 2D Design directly into the 3D model and material quantities, after your scan has processed. This helps you move from early inspiration into detailed scoping without starting from scratch.

The beta version of design transfer allows you to send one material selection per trade (walls, roof, and trim) from your 2D design into the 3D environment. Materials transferred from 2D to 3D reflect material intent only, not exact visual appearance. Textures, colors, and finishes may look different in 3D and are expected to be reviewed and adjusted. Future updates will expand the transfer capability so more design decisions can move directly from 2D into 3D.

How to use it:

  • Complete your 2D design, customizing and selecting the specific material that you want transferred to 3D.

    • Materials shown in inspiration designs are visual references only. To transfer a material to 3D, it must be explicitly selected through Customization in 2D.

  • Confirm the scan has processed and is ready for review.

  • Use the feature switcher in the action bar, selecting 3D.

  • One material per trade (walls, roof, and trim) will carry over to the matching facet in 3D.

Pro Tip: For quick reference, save your design in 2D before transferring to 3D.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I transfer from 2D to 3D today?

The beta version of design transfer allows you to bring a limited set of material selections from 2D into the 3D model. These selections determine which type of material is applied in 3D, not an exact visual match to the 2D design. You can transfer one material selection per trade for walls, roof, and trim, as long as that trade uses a single material in 2D. These materials will apply to all matching facets in 3D.

Changes to brick and stone areas cannot yet be transferred to 3D.

What does not transfer from 2D to 3D yet?

In addition to unsupported trades and categories, exact visual styling from 2D does not carry over during transfer. The following items do not transfer in the current beta:

  • Multiple materials applied within the same trade or category

  • Materials for windows

  • Materials for doors

  • Materials for garage doors

  • Paint selections

  • Brick and stone edits

  • Full inspiration feed designs

These choices still need to be applied directly within 3D.

Do I need to customize my 2D design before transferring to 3D?

Yes. Only materials you select through Customization in 2D can be transferred to 3D. Design choices created through the inspiration feed do not transfer and must be customized with a material selrction before the transfer will work. If no materials are explicitly customized in 2D, the 3D model will open without materials applied.
