The Materials, Labor & Other items template library

Create production-ready estimates with Hover's newest template library.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What's New? There's a new template library available that includes labor and other items (e.g., dumpsters, permits) by default, allowing you to create a full production estimate that can be saved as a custom template for future use.

A new Financials panel also summarizes Material, Labor, Other, and Total Cost all in one place.

Overview

The Materials, Labor & Other items templates let you build production-ready estimates without cobbling together manual labor and other line items in a separate system. Enter your own unit costs, set waste factors, and save your configuration as a reusable template so every project stays consistent.

Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different, or you’d like early access, please contact our Support team.

Materials, Labor & Other items

How to start a production-ready estimate:

  • Start a material list from your Project Details Page

  • Select the option to Choose and scope materials in 3D

  • Click the template library: Materials, Labor & Other items

  • Select your template(s)

  • Click Create Material List

Key capabilities of your production estimate

  • Financials: in the top right corner of the estimate, you will see a summary of Material, Labor, Other, and Total Cost which will automatically update as you edit line item costs

  • Labor line items: automatically tied to Hover's measurements and the associated material line coverage, enter your line item costs the first time, then save it as a template to skip the manual entry next time

  • Other line items: pre-populated items are not tied to Hover's measurements or material line coverage. Use in-line editing to account for things like permits, dumpsters, etc. and their associated costs

  • Duplicate any line item between sections: For example, duplicate a material line item and move it to the labor or other sections. Duplicated items retain measurements and auto-calculate in saved templates on future jobs

Tip: Create new custom templates from the Materials, Labor & Other templates so labor/other items are always included. You can make per-job edits any time without changing your saved template.

Why this is better

The new Materials, Labor & Other items template library streamlines your production estimation process:

  • Faster estimating: Start from production-ready templates with labor and other costs preconfigured, apply cost and waste in bulk, and skip manual add-ons.

  • Scaleable: Labor line items are driven by Hover measurements, with a live Financials summary of Material, Labor, Other, and Total Cost to keep numbers consistent across projects.

  • Repeatable, self-serve control: Enter your own labor/material costs, set waste factors, and save as templates so you and your team can estimate the same way every time.

This enhancement makes Hover a more powerful platform for production-ready estimating, collaboration, and construction sales engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Click the arrows to expand and collapse additional information.

Will my existing saved templates change automatically?

No. Any templates you previously saved from the original “Materials only” library will only contain materials. However, those templates will now have sections for Labor & Other items to be duplicated from pre-existing material line items or manually created.

To create new saved templates that include out of the box Labor & Other items, you will need to use the new template library and save new templates.

Can I remove labor or other items?

Yes. You can delete or zero out items that don’t apply to a specific job, then save it as a template if you want that change to persist for future jobs.

Where can I see cost totals?

In the top right corner of your estimate, there is a Financials summary that shows Material, Labor, Other, and Total Costs at a glance.

Do I need admin access to set pricing?

No. Anyone with permission to edit templates or material lists can input pricing and save new templates (subject to your workspace permissions).
