Exterior Hover Inspections

Photo-driven documentation for exterior damage

Hover Inspections combines scanning and damage documentation into a single, guided experience. It provides contextual inspection prompts at each stage of an exterior inspection, organizes your photos automatically, and delivers everything to your estimation platform (if integrated) — all before you leave the property.

Hover Exterior Inspections provides:

  • Photo-driven checklist: Step-by-step task prompts direct what to document so nothing gets missed in the field

  • Field-ready design: High-contrast text, voice-to-text notes, and volume-button shutter make it easy to capture everything on site

  • Notes and tags: Add damage type, severity, or recommendations in the moment so photos carry meaning when they reach your platform

  • Automatic sequencing: Photos flow into your estimation platform in a consistent front-right-back-left order, reducing back-office data entry and QA rework

  • Two outputs, one workflow: A web viewer lets office teams filter, review, and QA; an Inspection PDF mirrors the full workflow for easy sharing

Note: Hover Inspections is not a one-size-fits-all checklist. It is fully customizable to match your existing process and documentation standards.

Performing an exterior scan‑and‑inspect flow

Hover walks you through two steps to complete before leaving the site: the eight-photo scan for exterior measurements, followed by your inspection workflow.

1. Open a project

Start a new exterior project or open a draft to get started.

2. Scan the exterior via the picture grid

Walk around the exterior of the structure, getting at least one picture from each of the 8 required angles. Once you've completed the circuit and submitted the photos, your measurements begin processing immediately and the app takes you directly into the inspection workflow.

3. Inspect from the ground, if applicable

The app guides you through exterior siding, windows, screens, and other ground-level details on each side of the structure. For each task, photograph what you're seeing and move to the next.

Note: Task names are intentionally undefined in these images, since tasks are fully customizable to your documentation process.

4. Add notes, annotations, and tags as you go

Within any task, add a note to describe what you're seeing or use quick-action tags to flag damage type, severity, or your recommendation. These details travel with the photos when they sync to your estimation platform.

5. Inspect from the roof, if applicable

Once you move to the roof, the workflow prompts you to photograph specific facets and answer structured questions for things like: drip edge, element type, wind damage angles, hail hit count, and more.

Note: Task names are intentionally undefined in these images, since tasks are fully customizable to your documentation process.

6. Document gutters and additional details

The app will also guide you through gutter conditions, downspouts, and any remaining exterior details before you wrap up on-site documentation.

7. Complete and submit

Review your inspection, then submit. Your full inspection — photos organized by task, notes, and tags — syncs to your estimation platform and is available in the Hover web viewer.

Common Questions

Do I need to complete the measurement scan before starting the inspection?

It depends on your workflow. If your organization uses the combined flow, measurement processing and the inspection start at the same time. If you only need to document damage without measurements, inspection-only workflows are also supported. Check with your organization's admin for how yours is set up.

Does it matter what order I take the photos in?

No. Photos flow into your platform in the order defined by the workflow, not the order you took them. Front, right, back, left is the standard sequence, even if you started at the back of the house.

Can I add more photos to a task than the minimum required?

Yes. Each task has a minimum photo count if your organization has configured one, but you can take as many photos as you need. Tap the task, capture your photos, and hit Next when you're done.

What happens if I submit the inspection and realize I missed something?

Submitted inspections are locked and cannot be edited. If you need to document additional damage, you can start a new inspection on the same project. You can also add notes directly in your estimation platform after the photos sync.

Where can I view my completed inspection?

After submission, your inspection photos and documentation will be available in the Hover web viewer at hover.to as well as in your integrated estimation platform - if integrated. The inspection photos cannot be viewed in the mobile app after submission.

I work with multiple carriers. Do I need to select a workflow before starting?

Yes. If you have access to more than one organization's workflow, select the correct one before beginning. Starting under the wrong workflow will route your photos to the wrong estimation platform after submission.

Note: If your organization uses scan invites sent via text or email, opening that link takes you directly into the correct workflow automatically.
