How do I start an exterior scan?
How do I start an exterior scan?
Once you've downloaded the app and are ready to take pictures of a property, start a new project by:
Tapping the '+' at the bottom center of your screen or tapping Start a project
Tap Exterior measurements
Specify what you're measuring: roof only, full exterior, or photos only
How do I complete an exterior scan in low service areas?
How do I complete an exterior scan in low service areas?
If you're scanning the exterior of a property in a location with low service, we recommend following these best practices:
1) Upload on Wifi setting
Open your app Account settings, and then toggle 'on' the Upload on WiFi only feature. This ensures your project submissions will start processing only when you're connected to WiFi.
2) Close other apps
By reducing the amount of apps running in the background of your mobile device, connectivity bandwidth will be fully allocated to the Hover app.
3) Keep Hover open
Keep the Hover app open until the job summary status says "Evaluating". Once you see the "Evaluating" status, you can be assured that your exterior imagery has been uploaded successfully. In fact, you should always do this whether in good or poor service areas.
What's the difference between Roof-Only, Full Exterior, and Photos Only?
What's the difference between Roof-Only, Full Exterior, and Photos Only?
The Roof only option only includes the measurements, material, and model of the roof, including soffit. (Upgrade to Full exterior anytime!)
The Full exterior option includes measurements, materials, and model for the roof and elevations, openings, gutters, and downspout count.
Choosing to "Save photos now. Order later." (i.e. Photos Only) lets you take the photos, but order the 3D data later - either roof or full exterior options. No cost until you submit the job!
Can I take more than 8 photos?
Can I take more than 8 photos?
Yes. If you don't feel confident that you've scanned the entire side or corner of a property well, don't hesitate to add more photos. There is no limit to the number of photos that you can take.
Tap on the photo spot in the grid and then tap “add photos”.
Any additional photos added in this way will be used to build the 3D model.
Can I scan an exterior of a property at night?
Can I scan an exterior of a property at night?
We generally recommend submitting exterior scans in the daytime. However, if you have no option but to scan a structure at night, make sure all the interior lights are on, and try to use additional, external lights to make it as visible as possible.
Note: If the structure is not visible enough, you will receive a notification to scan the property again in the daytime:
How do I successfully scan properties with tight lot lines?
How do I successfully scan properties with tight lot lines?
Besides heavy obstructions in the frame (e.g trees), another reason to include additional photos to the 8-photo grid is if your property has tight lot lines.
If the structure has minimal space between it and its surrounding area, adjust your position until you see some free space. Take as many photos as needed, from different angles.
What is a corner shot?
What is a corner shot?
Corner shots are important photos that allow the geometry or lines of the structure to be identified. A good corner shot includes three posts:
Any tight corners or obstructions in frame? Don't worry - we can work with that! Just be sure to take a photo of every corner of the property and don't hesitate to add more pictures, if necessary.
Inviting homeowners or other professionals to scan a property

How will I know that the homeowner has submitted photos of their home and that the 3D model is ready?

If a multi-family unit has similar units next to it, will I receive the 3D model for those as well?
If a multi-family unit has similar units next to it, will I receive the 3D model for those as well?
No, you will only receive the 3D model and measurements for the unit you scan and specify within the Hover app. If you want to receive a 3D model and measurements for multiple units (but not the entire building) you will have to scan each unit separately.
Reference Measurements
Why is a reference measurement important?
Why is a reference measurement important?
We use image data, such as a standard size front door to determine scale. When that visual data is obscured in a photo(s) (e.g. by heavy foliage), we need to collect that information from another source.
Examples of reference measurements include:
the width of any wall from the left corner to the right corner
the width and height of the front door or garage door, etc.
How do I add a reference measurement prior to submitting a scan?
How do I add a reference measurement prior to submitting a scan?
Before you submit the scan: It's a good habit to collect at least one reference measurement before leaving the property. Record the measurement as an internal job note, if needed.
Internal notes cannot be seen by the Hover team, but you or a team member can easily refer to this section if we request a reference measurement to process the submission.
How do I add a reference measurement for a paused submission?
How do I add a reference measurement for a paused submission?
In some instances, Hover may request a reference measurement to proceed.
You can provide a reference measurement of any door, garage door, or wall of the structure to proceed. However - whatever you choose to measure should already be visible in the exterior imagery you initially attempted to submit through the app.
Tap Add now and follow the in-app guide to submit a reference measurement of your choice
