Using the New Design Material Menu and Facet Selection

Learn how to use Hover’s redesigned Material Menu and updated Facet Selection to search and filter materials faster, apply them with more precision, and customize designs in real time.

Updated yesterday

What's New? The design Material Menu has been redesigned with improved search, interactive filters, and clearer organization to make finding the right materials faster and easier.

Facet Selection now allows you to automatically apply materials to entire areas or select individual surfaces for precise control, giving you more flexibility when customizing designs.

Overview

The updated Material Menu and Facet Selection experience improves how you design and customize projects in Hover. These changes make it faster to search for materials, easier to filter and organize options, and more flexible to apply materials across a model.

These updates are also part of broader improvements to the Hover workflow, which aim to connect every stage of your project into one seamless experience. By making design faster, more visual, and more collaborative, these changes allow you to build trust earlier, guide customers with confidence, and move from conversations to contracts more smoothly.

Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different, or you’d like early access, please contact our Support team.

Material Menu

The new Material Menu makes it easier to locate and apply materials by combining powerful search with interactive filters and an organized interface.

How to Use the Material Menu

  • Use the search bar at the top to find materials by color, brand, or material type without scrolling through long lists.

  • Apply filters to narrow down available options. Filters automatically update based on your selections, so you only see relevant choices.

  • Combine multiple filters, such as brand, color, wall type, siding type, and size, to build precise material combinations.

Key Capabilities

  • Quickly locate specific materials with keyword search.

  • Use dynamic filters that automatically adjust based on your selections.

  • Explore multiple combinations and narrow down results in real time.

  • Present curated, relevant options to homeowners during sales conversations.

Tips:

  • If certain brand or color options disappear, check if another filter (like material type) is limiting results.

  • Clear filters to reset the menu and view the full list of available materials.

Facet Selection and Material Grouping

Facet Selection gives you more control over how materials are applied to your design, whether you’re working on a large area or making detailed adjustments.

How Facet Selection Works

  • Automatic selection: Choose a material type (for example, trim or roofing) to automatically highlight and apply it to all matching areas on the 3D model.

  • Manual selection: Click individual facets directly on the model to add or remove them. Selected areas are highlighted in fuchsia, making it easy to track active selections.

  • Material groups: Surfaces are now organized into groups, showing how many elements each one contains. Selecting a group overrides individual selections. For example, you can remove a brick group entirely and replace it with a different material such as "Glacier White."

Benefits in the Sales Process

  • Present multiple material options during a homeowner meeting without leaving the design view.

  • Adjust materials in real time based on feedback and preferences.

  • Help customers visualize the final result clearly, leading to faster decisions.

  • Build trust by showing how design choices impact the overall look of the project.

Tips

  • To take a screenshot without fuchsia highlights, deselect all items in the material group menu before capturing the image.

  • Use automatic selection to quickly update large areas, then switch to manual selection for detailed customization.

Saved Designs

The updated saving and sharing tools make it easier to manage designs, collaborate with others, and keep projects moving forward.

  • Save or update a design directly within the tool without starting over.

  • Switch between versions quickly using a dropdown menu to compare options.

  • Share a design link with homeowners, team members, or partners for review and collaboration.

  • Revisit saved designs to continue conversations, present alternatives, or track changes over time.

Why This Is Better

The redesigned Material Menu, Facet Selection, and Saved Designs tools make the design process faster, clearer, and more collaborative. They are also designed to strengthen how you sell and deliver projects by turning design into a more strategic part of the homeowner journey.

  • Previous versions of Hover's design tool offered limited selection options and required navigating multiple menus.

  • The new experience simplifies selection workflows, improves filtering, and gives you precise control over materials.

  • Group selection and individual facet selection are now separate and easier to manage.

  • Saved designs make it simpler to track changes, share updates, and keep projects moving.

The redesigned Material Menu, Facet Selection, and Saved Designs tools help you sell more effectively and deliver projects with greater confidence. Faster search, real-time customization, and clearer homeowner conversations lead to quicker decisions, higher close rates, and stronger trust.
