Take inspection photos in any order, and sort them later

The new inspection camera lets you capture photos directly in a task, or take multiple photos for a task group first, and sort them later.

What's New? Inspections has a new camera that works like the camera on your phone. Use it to capture photos directly in an inspection task, or take photos freestyle - without choosing a task first. Photos taken outside of a task will be saved with an Uncategorized label in the task group so you can sort them later.

Overview

Finding the correct inspection task before taking a required photo can slow you down and keep your eyes on your phone rather than the property. On a steep or hot roof, you may not have time to sort and tag as you go.

The new Inspections camera gives you another way to work: Take photos the way you would with your phone, then organize them into your task list once you're back on the ground or at your vehicle. Or if you prefer, take and send the photos directly into a specific task - choose the flow that works best for you.

Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different or you'd like early access, please contact your Hover account manager.

How it works

The new camera is an additional option in the bottom bar and does not change how to start an inspection.

How to take photos with the new camera:

  • Start your inspection as usual.

  • Tap the camera button in the middle of the bottom bar.

  • Choose how to work. Swipeable task names appear at the bottom of the camera, with Uncategorized first.

    • To capture photos freely, stay in Uncategorized and take your photos without choosing a task.

    • To capture photos directly in a specific task, swipe to that task. You’ll see the tasks for the elevation you’re working in (e.g., Overview, Front, etc.).

  • Take your photos. A checkmark shows a completed task. An orange dot marks a required task.

How to change elevations or tasks without leaving the camera:

  • Tap the current area (e.g. Front) at the top center of the camera view, and select a different elevation from the drop-down menu.

  • Tap the task list button in the bottom navigation bar to open the full task list.

You do not need to go back to the main task list to move through your inspection. Tap the ‘X’ in the top right corner to return back to the camera view.

How to sort photos into tasks:

Photos taken in the Uncategorized group will stay there until they’re moved.

To sort a single photo from the camera view:

  • Open the gallery for the Uncategorized task group - tap the photo icon in the bottom left of the camera view.

  • Click on a photo to open it, then tap the Move to a task icon.

  • Select a task from the task list, then select Apply.

To sort multiple photos at once:

  • Open the Uncategorized gallery - tap the photo icon in the bottom left of the camera view.

  • Select photos by tapping on some or all of the ones you want to move. one or more photos to move to a specific task.

  • Tap the + to add them to a task, choose the task, then select Apply.

You can also add photos to the gallery from your phone’s camera roll.

Note: In this release, photos are not sorted automatically. You need to sort them manually from the gallery before submitting the inspection. Photos you've already sorted will appear in their task while anything still in ‘Uncategorized’ has not been assigned to a task yet.

Annotations, comments, and tags

Quick actions work the same way as before. You can add annotations, comments, and tags to any photo.

Why this is better

  • Work the way you prefer. The task list is still available if you prefer the task-by-task workflow, or capture your photos in a single task group and sort them later.

  • Keep your eyes on the property. Take photos without pausing to search for a task each time.

  • Sort when it's safe. On a roof or in other tough conditions, take your photos first and organize later.

  • Stay in the camera. Change elevation or task without going back to the main task list.

  • Same markup capabilities. Photo annotations, descriptions, and tags work the same as before.
