Scanning multiple levels for a single interior project

A multi-level interior property can now be scanned within a single Hover project

Updated today

What's new? You can scan and manage multiple levels within one interior project. Instead of creating separate projects for each floor, you can:

  • Scan multiple levels in one session

  • Access all levels from the same project details page

  • Easily move between levels across mobile and web

Each level is still processed individually, so you get separate floor plans, measurements, and virtual walkthroughs for each one.

Overview

Hover’s multi-level capability allows you to group all floors of a property into one interior project.

This makes it easier to:

  • Keep all project data in one place

  • Navigate between levels without switching projects

  • Manage multi-story properties more efficiently

Hover continues to generate accurate floor plans, measurements, and virtual walkthroughs for each level.

How it works

It is one project with multiple floor plans within it.

  • All levels (i.e. floor plans) are grouped under one Job ID

  • All levels are accessed from the same Project Details Page

  • Each level is still:

    • Processed independently

    • Delivered separately*

    • Accessed individually

*For our Xactimate and Cotality integrations, all levels can be imported into the same claim.

How to use it

Scanning an interior project with multiple levels:

  • Scan your first level as you normally would, room by room

    • Input the number of levels you plan to scan

    • Complete the room-by-room scan for as many rooms are needed on the first level

      • Label the room

      • Scan and review the model of the room before continuing

      • Add another room, label it, scan and review

      • Repeat, as needed

  • Submit the first level and start your next level

    • When you're finished with the first level, tap Add room or level (do not tap Finish yet)

    • On the next screen tap Add a level

    • Review the floor plan for the first level, then tap Submit and start level

    • Walk to the next level.

    • Tap Next from the Level submitted screen and begin scanning the next level

      • Additional levels are automatically named based on your original level’s name, with a count appended (e.g., “Project Name - Level 1", “Project Name - Level 2, etc.”)

      • You can add up to 20 levels per project.

      • Repeat as needed

Note: Each level should be scanned separately. Do not scan while moving between floors (e.g., stairs).

Uploading an interior project with multiple levels:

Uploading begins automatically after each level is completed. However, the measurements, virtual walkthroughs and more won’t be returned until all levels have been scanned and the project is submitted. This ensures all models are complete before billing or exporting to integrations.

When you're done scanning every level and are ready to submit the whole project:

  • Tap Finalize Measurements

  • Tap Finish from the Summary screen

  • Tap Upload now

  • Keep the app open until the upload has been submitted

  • Tap Done

While this capability is available for exterior projects as well, there are some differences. Use this article to follow the exterior scan workflow for multiple structures.

Viewing and switching between levels, once completed:

The process is the same whether using the mobile or web app:

  • Open the Project Details Page

  • Click or tap the toggle at the top of the page to navigate between levels

Note: You can access measurements, virtual walkthroughs, and other features for each structure.

Why this is better

Multi-level projects make it easier to manage real-world interior properties.

Instead of creating separate projects for each floor, you can:

  • Scan everything in one workflow

  • Keep levels organized in one place

  • Move from first scan to estimate faster

Frequently asked questions

Click the expand arrows to reveal information.

Do all structures have the same Job ID?

Yes. All levels scanned in one session share the same Job ID.

Does this affect pricing or billing?

Pricing depends on the type of scan:

  • Interior scans are multi-level, and you will be charged once, based on total square footage across all levels

  • Exterior scans are charged per structure

Is there a limit to how many levels I can scan for one project?

You can scan up to 20 levels per project.

Can I add another level later on?

No. All levels must be scanned in the same session before tapping Finish.

Can I combine all levels into one floor plan or PDF?

No. Each level has its own floor plan and measurement PDF.

Are there other limitations?

Yes. At this time, levels are grouped but not combined which means you cannot combine:

  • Measurements / PDFs

  • Estimates or material lists

  • Virtual walkthroughs

You also cannot:

  • Add another level after finishing the project

  • Merge older projects into one

Does this work with integrations as well?

All levels are imported into a single claim within Xactimate or Cotality.

If you use Hover with another platform:

  • Some integrations may require updates to fully support multiple levels per project

  • If you don’t see all levels in your integration, contact your integration provider for details

  • If you built a custom integration, you can leverage the multi-level capability, but will likely need to upgrade your integration. Please reach out to your Hover representative who will connect you to our Solutions Engineering team.
