Control Who Sees and Edits Your Projects

Use the updated Share functionality to send a view-only link or invite a collaborator to edit

Updated today

What's new? The sharing experience has been updated across the Project Details Page (PDP) and Workspace to give you more control and clarity when collaborating on projects. You can now choose between sharing a view-only link or inviting someone to actively collaborate. The new experience is consistent whether you're sharing from the PDP, 3D Design, or 2D Design.

Overview

The updated Share button now offers two distinct options: a view-only link for quick reference, or a collaboration invite that gives another user edit access. Previously, clicking Share in Workspace automatically copied a link to your clipboard with no way to grant edit access or know what the recipient did with it.

“Share” is now unified across the Project Details Page (PDP) and Workspace, so the experience looks and works the same regardless of where you initiate sharing.

When you invite a collaborator to edit, they'll be prompted to sign up for a Hover account. This ensures any designs they save are stored in their account, giving both of you visibility into the work going forward.

Homeowners and pros have different levels of access when added to a project:

  • Homeowners — can view and edit designs. They will not see estimates or inspections.

  • Pros (same company) — can view designs and estimates.

  • Pros (different company) — can view designs only. Estimates are not visible across companies.

How to use it

Sharing from the PDP:

  • Click Share in the top right corner of the project page.

  • In the share modal, add the email address of the person you want to invite and use the dropdown to signify if they are a Homeowner or Pro.

    • In this view, you will also see a list of others who have previously been invited to the project, if applicable.

  • Click Send to add them as a collaborator.

Sharing a 2D Design in Workspace:

  • Click Share on an individual design, or click Share All from the Saved Designs menu to share all saved designs associated with the project at once.

  • Choose one of two options:

    • Copy View-Only Link — copies a link that lets the recipient view the 2D design and review materials for that specific design. They cannot make edits.

    • Invite Collaborator to Edit — opens the share modal to invite a homeowner or pro to actively work on the design with you.

Sharing a 3D Design in Workspace:

  • Open the saved design and click Share.

  • Choose one of two options:

    • Copy View-Only Link — copies a link that lets the recipient view the specific 3D design and review materials for the design. They cannot make edits.

    • Invite Collaborator to Edit — opens the share modal to invite a homeowner or pro to actively work on the design with you.

Why this is better

The updated sharing experience makes it easier to collaborate intentionally, whether you need someone to review work or actively contribute to it.

With the updated Share experience:

  • You choose exactly what access to grant, rather than defaulting to a view-only link every time.

  • Homeowners and pros get a clear, role-appropriate view of the project when they're added.

  • When collaborators accept an edit invite, their saved designs are tied to their Hover account so the work isn't lost and both parties have a record of it.

  • The experience is consistent across the PDP, 3D Design, and 2D Design, reducing confusion about which Share button does what.

Having a unified, intentional sharing flow makes it easier to bring the right people into a project with the right level of access without extra back-and-forth or workarounds.

Frequently asked questions

Click the expand arrows to reveal or collapse information.

Why does my collaborator need to create a Hover account?

When a collaborator signs up, any designs they save will be stored directly in their Hover account. This gives you both a record of their work which is something that wasn't possible with the previous view-only link experience

Can a homeowner see my estimates?

No. Estimates are only visible to pros within the same company. Homeowners can only view and edit designs.

Can a homeowner see my inspections?

If Hover Inspections has been enabled for your account and you created an inspection for the project you’re sharing, yes - the homeowner can see the inspection photos and details.

What was the previous Share experience in Workspace?

Previously, clicking Share in Workspace automatically copied a view-only link to your clipboard. The updated Share button now gives you the choice between a view-only link and a collaboration invite, so you're always in control of what access you're granting.
