How do I create custom line measurements on the 3D model?

Use Custom Measure mode to add custom measurements directly on the 3D model to support accurate damage documentation and claim scoping.

Updated over a week ago

Overview: Custom Measure lets you draw your own distance lines directly on the 3D model, and you can enable or disable snapping which helps measurement endpoints automatically align to nearby edges and model geometry, making it easier to get precise, custom line measurements directly on the 3D model.

You can add multiple measurements at once, keep them visible as you move around the model, and adjust or remove them whenever needed. This is especially useful when documenting specific areas of damage, verifying measurements against a claim estimate, or reviewing a loss location remotely without requiring an additional site visit.

How to access Custom Measure

You can access Custom Measure in Measurement Mode within Workspace.

  • From the Project Details Page, Select the Measurements card

  • Choose the 3D option to open the model in Measurements mode

  • Select the Measure button (ruler) in the action bar

Note: This update is part of a phased release and may not be available to all users yet. If your experience looks different, or you’d like early access, please contact our Support team.

Create a custom measurement

While in Custom Measure mode:

  • Click on the model to place a starting point

  • Move your cursor to start a line measurement

  • Click on the location for your desired endpoint

  • You can create as many custom measurements as you'd like

The measurement(s) stay visible as you rotate, zoom, or continue reviewing the loss location. You can also view custom line measurements in 3D mode to see the relevant surfaces and affected areas.

Snapping custom line measurements

As soon as you enter Custom Measure mode, you will notice a toggle for Snapping. When enabled, the endpoint will automatically attach to nearby edges and align with parallel geometry, reducing small placement errors. You can disable snapping any time, if you want more flexibility.

Edit or remove a custom measurement

Click any existing custom measurement to select it.

  • Select the edit icon

  • Drag the endpoints to reposition or resize the measurement

  • Tap the check icon to confirm your changes and lock the measurement in place

If you no longer need the measurement, select it again and choose the trash icon to delete it from the model.

Custom Measure lets you place and adjust reference distances right on the 3D model, so you can verify damage dimensions and document scope of loss details without guessing or jumping between tools, and Snapping makes custom measurements even more reliable by keeping them aligned with the model itself—not just where you clicked.

  • Measurements stay visible as you rotate, zoom, and navigate the model

  • Multiple custom measurements can be placed and viewed at the same time

  • Measurements can be edited or removed at any point, reducing rework

  • Reference distances remain in context instead of being recreated or lost

Having custom measurements directly on the model makes it easier to verify damage dimensions, support accurate claim estimates, and move forward with confidence in the numbers.
